Why become an Interim Manager?
Managers and specialists are typically attracted to the more exciting assignments and that’s what we can offer at Nexus Interim Management.
Interim Management mostly means challenging positions, which involve change, development and the implementation of new initiatives, often under the pressure of short deadlines. In short, assignments that demand experience and perseverance. On the other hand, you’ll never get bored and the jobs will look good on your CV.
If you’re attracted by the thought of a more varied and free working life, you should consider becoming an Interim Manager. You choose which assignments you’ll take. You enjoy a flexible work life. And you are free of office politics.
It’s also a good idea for you professionally, and career-wise. You reinforce your competency profile and your CV. And you can also achieve a reasonable financial compensation for your work, depending on demand, supply and your professional profile.
In other words, there are many good reasons for considering taking the path of Interim Manager, especially if you possess professional pride and a high level of competence combined with the desire for freedom and self-determination.

Competency requirements for Interim Managers
Being an Interim Manager might sound like the ideal job, and in many ways it is. But it also demands certain competencies.
What are the characteristics of good Interim Managers? Typically, they are a good combination of professional and personal qualities. As a rule, we emphasize four important qualifications, which determine whether this kind of work is suitable for you.
- Core competence You must be experienced and knowledgeable within your area
- Results oriented You must be enthusiastic and exceptionally goal oriented
- Change Management You’re not only resilient, but you must also be able to create change
- Social competence Your personal profile must have a high level of social competence
There are, of course, obvious additional qualifications if you are to work as an Interim Manager. You must be quick to familiarize yourself with new problems. You must be capable of motivating others and working under tight deadlines. And you must be good at communication so that you can be forceful within an organization.
In other words, not everybody is suitable for the freer life of Interim Manager. But for those who can fulfil the requirements and accept the challenge, there’s a varied and exciting career ahead.
Guidelines for writing a good Interim CV
Your CV is generally the first thing our clients see and assess. Here follow some tips to increase your chances of being selected.
When we start up an assignment, we search the CVs in our database on the basis of the client’s requirements. This search is often performed using keywords. Therefore, it’s of paramount importance that your CV is clear and includes searchable keywords that precisely describe your professional capabilities.
We do not use any specific CV format, but simply register your CV in our database. The file must be in Word format, not PDF, graphics, nor locked.
In outline, your CV should contain your core competencies, your career history, your results/achievements, and your contact details.
In Interim Management, we prefer chronological CVs rather than competency-based CVs, which tend to be too general.
Here are some tips you can use for inspiration:
Be focused
Any CV aimed at Interim Management should start with a sentence describing what you are specialized in. Describe yourself as though you were a professional product.
Make your CV readable
We recommend that you use the Arial font in 10 points. Bold, italics and bullets can be used for headlines, but avoid colours, varying fonts and point size. And avoid using text boxes, frames, etc., because they can make it difficult to include your CV in a client presentation.
Use keywords in your descriptions
Keywords are important in your CV because they are what we search for online. Your keywords must precisely describe your competencies. They can, for example, refer to IT-systems (SAP, Navision, etc.,), main work area (e.g. Supply Chain Management) or firms you have previously worked for.
Focus on the last 10 years
Any good results you may have achieved 10-20 years ago have probably had a positive influence on your development, but are not necessarily still relevant.
Avoid subjective descriptions
Do not tell the reader that you are charismatic, a born communicator, a great motivator, a financial wizard, or such like. Your achievements should speak for themselves.
Write only one document
Write your CV as one single document. When specifying your competencies, mention only the core ones the others will be apparent from the positions you have held.
Make your CV user friendly
When evaluating a CV, we focus on the positions you have had, and the jobs you have performed. Consequently, you should make an easily comprehensible overview of your past employers, together with a short description of work assignments, employment periods and job titles.
What makes you qualified for a specific assignment?
If you are seeking a specific assignment, write in your email/application how you match up with the criteria listed in the assignment specification.
