Special competencies for the public sector

Instead of hiring specialists for concrete assignments or consultancies, the public sector can often benefit from Interim Management.

As a decision-maker in the public sector, you know that it’s occasionally necessary to bring in professional experts, specialists, project managers and other managerial competencies in order to strengthen the organization.

This is typically the case for specific assignments requiring specific experience or knowledge. Alternatively, sometimes it’s not possible to find sufficient internal resources to carry out a particular project.

In such cases, it would often be more effective and results oriented to attach an Interim Manager than to buy the assistance of a consultant. This has proved to be the case in the U.K, where one third of the market for Interim Management today is found in the public sector.

Why utilize Interim Management in the public sector?

What can be done when there is an acute shortage of personnel resources due to leave, vacancies or major implementation and development projects?

You find or borrow resources in your own organization. Otherwise the position remains unfilled. Under any circumstances, the outcome will be the same – more work by fewer people.

Such solutions are not ideal. Alternatively, an Interim Manager can be found to take over the position at short notice.

An Interim Manager is an experienced specialist with managerial competencies. The organization will gain valuable professional expertise and someone with management experience who can hold their own at all levels.

If a major project is to be implemented, hiring an Interim Manager is an attractive solution and a cost-effective choice. You won’t only get an advisor, but someone who will be hands on throughout the entire process.

The Interim Manager is positively overqualified, and as the client, you will be able to choose from a number of qualified candidates who will get the job, and who will fit best into your organization.

Advantages for public sector clients

Contract conditions are already in place through SKI, the candidates are well qualified, and total costs are lower than for consultant services.

Candidates with public sector experience Our database contains specialists and managers with experience of the public sector and political decision-making processes.
Fill temporary staffing gaps Get an Interim Manager and ensure that the department continues to function and thrive.
Projects Let an Interim Manager manage new projects. The manager will be part of the organization so ownership of the project will be solidly based. You can be confident that implementation will be in safe hands.
Enhancing competencies in the organization Get a positively overqualified Interim Manager to analyze needs and then recommend and implement improvements.
Organizational changes The Danish ’structural reform’ has temporarily increased the need for extra capacity, which can best be met by the flexibility provided by an Interim Manager.

From the economic point of view, Interim Management is a very favourable alternative. Nexus can offer highly qualified candidates at a price much lower than normal consultant fees. The price structure is according to the SKI framework agreement.
The flexibility and rapid recruitment of Interim Managers are also major advantages, so it makes sense to contact Nexus before your challenges develop into problems.

Nexus enters into agreement with SKI

On May 1, 2006, Nexus Interim Management entered into a new framework agreement with the State and Municipal Purchasing Service, SKI.

The agreement covers the delivery of Interim Management to public and semi-public organizations. This is an attractive option for public authorities, which want to acquire temporary, flexible management resources.

The framework agreement with SKI is easy to use because the contractual conditions have already been negotiated and agreed. The individual agreements are based on an approved standard contract, and the tendering requirement has been waived since the contract has already been through the EU tender process.

As a public sector client, you are assured the right conditions, and that all formalities are observed. Owing to the fact that there are administrative savings involved, the National Audit Office of Denmark (Rigsrevisionen) recommends in a report that public authorities utilize SKI’s framework agreements.

Nexus Interim Management is one of a number of suppliers specified under the Framework Contract for Consultancy Services, Contract 6, but is the only selected supplier specializing in – and only working with – Interim Management.
